Christmas Appeal...

The Christmas Appeal was launched in 1991 to provide food hampers to deserving families at Christmas time. Originating from donated products packed and delivered by a team of volunteers, the Foundation now has an agreement with Foodbank S.A. and is supplied with 500 complete hampers ready to be distributed to metropolitan and country South Australia as well as the Northern Territory.

Lodges place a recommendation to the Foundation on behalf of other organisations, e.g. Salvation Army, or by a doctor or Church parish that have dealings with families that need assistance.

Hampers are delivered to the freight depots of Scotts Transport, Northern Territory Freight and Dyers Transport, who kindly transport the hampers free of charge to their areas.

Our main fundraiser for the Appeal is the Christmas Trailer Raffle with a trailer full of electrical goods and a number of cash prizes that are raffled from shopping centres in the country and metropolitan areas.  This is convened by a team of volunteers under the supervision of Lennox Pawson, who dedicates many tireless hours to raise the funds needed.  Other donations are forwarded from individual Freemasons and Freemasons  Lodges.

MAJOR SPONSORSHIP WITH FOODBANK S.A.

The other beneficiary from the Appeal is Foodbank S.A. by way of a major sponsorship funded annually by the Foundation.

Foodbank S.A. is a non-denominational organisation which sources donated and surplus food from the food and grocery industry to distribute to welfare and community agencies that provide food assistance to people in need throughout the whole year.

The Foundation’s sponsorship funds bread and cereal products for the year’s distribution.
